This very well known tune was first composed by Robert Johnson. It was then
covered by Elmore James , the famous electric slide guitar player, in the
fifties. After him many also covered it in different ways : Canned Heat,
Spencer Davies Group, Taj Mahal, John Mayall, Ike and Tina Turner .....
and ZZTOP :
The ZZTOP version that I tabbed here was released in 1979 on their album
DEGUELLO. It is played exclusively with electric guitars. We are rather
far from the original Robert Johnson's version. Billy Gibbons put his own
inventiveness in it. On the record you can hear three guitars (two playing
rhythm) but one rhythm guitar and one slide guitar are enough with a bass
guitar to reproduce the tune.
Both guitars must be tuned in OPEN D that is from bass to treble :
Needless to be a slide guitar master to have fun playing that tune !
I am not !
